Recipe for Chocolate Squares Recipe


2 oz unsweetened baking chocolate
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3/4 cup sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chopped pecans

2 oz unsweetened baking chocolate
1 oz sweet chocolate
3 tablespoon butter
1 3/4 cup confectioners' sugar, sifted
5 tablespoon hot milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract


Preheat oven to 325o. Melt 2 oz unsweetened chocolate and shortening together in top of double boiler over hot water. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Beat in sugar. Add eggs one at a time; beat well after each addition. Sift flour and baking powder together into bowl; add to chocolate mixture. Add nuts and blend well.

Pour batter into greased, 9"x13" baking pan. Bake for 35 mintues, or until firm. Cool in pan.

For frosting: Melt 2 oz unsweetened chocolate, sweet chocolate, and butter in top of double boiler over hot water. Remove from heat. Combine sugar and heated milk; pour into chocolate mixture. Add vanilla and beat until thick enough to spread. Spread frosting over baked chocolate mixture; cut into squares.
