Recipe for Sauerkraut With Apples


1 medium onion; peeled and chopped
2 tablespoon lard or bacon fat
1 lb sauerkraut; drained
1/2 cup beef bouillon or consomme
2 tart apples, cored, pared
1 & chopped
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon caraway seed
1 medium potato, raw; peeled
1 & grated
1 salt and pepper; to taste


In a saucepan, saute onion in fat until tender. Add sauerkraut; saute 1 min. Add remaining ingredients. Cook slowly, covered, for 30 mins. Serves 4.

NOTES : This is usually served with pork or game.
