Recipe for Holiday Sugar Cookies


1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 decorators' sugar, optional


You can use heart cutter and red decorators' sugar for Valentines, shamrock cutter and green decorators' sugar for St. Patrick's, etc.

Cream butter and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add egg and extracts. Stir in flour; mix well. Chill several hours. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut with a 2 1/2 or 3-inch cookie cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheets; sprinkle with sugar, if desired. Bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Yield: 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
